The Attorney will be a key member of the Legal Services Department reporting directly to the General Counsel. The Legal Services Department provides legal counsel and services in a variety of areas such as: franchising, real estate, information technology (“IT”), intellectual property, corporate contracting, consumer protection, employment law, e-commerce, litigation management, and regulatory and franchise compliance.  The Attorney will be directly responsible for assisting to ensure that Zaxby’s business practices, policies, and actions serve as “best practices” to minimize risk while simultaneously moving the business forward, especially in the areas of domestic and international franchise disclosure and compliance, IT and privacy.  


Essential duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Franchise Matters

  • Formulate strategy and establish and maintain guidelines to provide timely, sound legal advice and risk mitigation to Zaxby’s related to domestic and international franchising to support the organization’s long-term business goals and objectives.
  • Manage the research, preparation, follow-up, and notifications of non-compliance, defaults, and terminations related to non-performance by franchisees under franchisee agreements.
  • Develop and continually improve templates, processes, and procedures to maintain a streamlined, proactive approach to managing franchisee compliance and disputes.
  • Assist with preparation of Franchise Disclosure Documents.

Information Technology and Privacy

  • Serve as key contact for the Chief Digital & Technology Officer and IT team relating to Zaxby’s digital transformation.
  • Partner with outside counsel (as needed) to assist in negotiating IT-based and technology driven agreements to inform and support assessments of risk allocation at market standards and improve overall efficiencies from start to finish as Zaxby’s implements key vendor relationships.   
  • Provide guidance and counsel to business executives and technology stakeholders on a range of consumer privacy and information technology and security issues (including matters concerning compliance with applicable privacy laws, rules, and regulations (e.g., GDPR and CCPA)). 
  • Collaborate and support other members of the Legal Services department to analyze and assist with pertinent privacy and data security aspects of legal agreements.

Corporate Matters

  • Support business team members on existing commercial arrangements, including vendor and supplier contracts and relationships.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts and real estate leases.
  • Assist General Counsel to prepare and roll-out new policies and procedures, including a document retention policy.
  • Partner with the leader of Risk Management to monitor emerging risks.
  • Maintain an understanding of the FDA Food Safety requirements and participate in the HAACP and product recall team.
  • Act as the liaison with the National Restaurant Association and Georgia Restaurant Association and communicate relevant information to departments and stakeholders.

Less than 25% required



  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Planning, organization, and follow-up skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/tasks with time-sensitive deadlines in a changing environment
  • People management skills, including delegation, follow-up, coaching, and developing others for success


Education:           Bachelor’s degree; Juris Doctorate and member in good-standing of a state bar

Experience:        7+ combined years of law firm and in-house counsel experience required; franchise law experience required; IT, privacy and or real estate experience a bonus
